Lighting Selections
While often overlooked, the lighting selections in a home are some of the most important design choices as lighting can truly transform a space. Pendant and feature lighting has the ability to catch people's attention as well as ground areas within a home by defining spaces of use. Especially when a home has an open floor plan such as the Mesquite plan, lighting has the important ability to center these spaces for their different uses such as the living room, dining room area, kitchen nook, and entryway foyer. In addition, pendant lighting directs your sight upwards, allowing the space to feel larger.
Unique lighting can also create a design moment in small spaces and make a home feel custom. For example, adding a semi-flush mount fixture inside the book nook under the stairs makes the space feel cozier while also providing a beautiful, as well as great source of lighting when reading.
The style of lighting choices can easily direct the architectural and interior style of the home itself. When selecting the lighting for the Mesquite home, I desired to stay in line with the natural, earth-tone based selections that I was making elsewhere throughout the house and stay with transitional styles that mixed traditional and modern forms. Staying primarily with bronze and gold toned finishes added to the warmth of the home. Glass pendants with a touch of bronze above the kitchen island allowed the kitchen itself to shine while not distracting or having too much visual weight.
While popular long ago and used as one of the original forms of interior lighting, wall sconces have become increasingly popular as of lately and are a great addition to hallways, stairways, bathrooms, or in bedrooms or living spaces. Wall sconces really create a custom look and are truthfully fun to turn on and use!
Imagine the ways lighting could transform your spaces!
